Live Demonstration
Zero Liquid Discharge - Brine Reduction
Oil Patch in New Mexico

October 2019 - December, 2019

Location
Major Oil and Gas Producer
Groundwater Chloride Remediation
Oil Patch

Eastern New Mexico / West Texas

Technology
Vacuum Membrane Distillation
"VMD"

How It Works
VMD is a thermal process using vacuum to induce a phase change from water to vapor to achieve a distilled water permeate and a very highly concentrated brine slurry.  The feed water can be as high as 200,000 TDS, the system can be mobile or stationary, it operates within the entire pH range, it uses very low pressures, no chemicals, no membrane scaling occurs due to the homogenous hydrophobic PTFE membrane to achieve salt saturation with very low flux decline and high recovery rates.

Scope of Demonstration
Remove Chlorides and Reduce Trucking and Disposal Costs
Reducing the chlorides in the extracted groundwater will reduce the volume of water to be trucked and disposed of offsite.  Reducing offsite trucking and disposal will reduce costs and also allow for reuse of permeate once regulation allows and permits.  The permeate after treatment is less than 100 mg/L TDS and chlorides removed.

Scope of Demonstration
Concentration of high TDS wastewater streams to achieve Zero Liquid Discharge.
The influent TDS levels are 15,000 TDS, 60,000 TDS and 100,000 TDS.  The VMD will concentrate the influent streams to levels of concentration over 300,000 TDS with no antiscalant chemicals. The permeate will be at distilled water quality and can be reused within any application.

Truck in High TDS Wastewater

O&G Produced Water from Carlsbad NM has arrived on-site and will be tested during the demonstration.
If testing your own water is of interest this can be arranged.

Demonstration Results
Based on these results, Hollow Fiber Vacuum Membrane Distillation is a proven solution to reduce the power plant brine volume by ~90% and deliver ~90% as a high purity reclaimed water at <30 ppm TDS to reduce the plant feedwater volume, need for additional ponds, equipment, trucking, etc.

No Scaling – No Antiscalants – Low Pressure – Automated Design – Short Cleaning Cycles

Watereuse Symposium Phoenix
Pacific States Water
September
32nd Annual WateReuse Symposium  -  Meet Karen and Kyle at the 32nd Annual WateReuse Symposium on September 10-13 in Phoenix, AZ. They will be at booth #6 . The Annual WateReuse Symposium is the nation’s preeminent conference on water reuse and the only conference that is dedicated solely to advancing the policy, technology, innovation and public acceptance of water reuse.

The conference is located at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel, 100 N. 1st Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85004

This year’s Symposium will feature:
  • More than 100 presentations, panel discussions, and workshops.
  • A Technical Tour with a stops at the Town of Gilbert Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch and the Scottsdale Water’s Reclamation and Advanced Water Treatment Plant.
  • The AZ Pure Water Brew Challange—sample beers made with purified recycled water.
  • Dinner with dancing at The Duce and an optional baseball game (Arizona Diamondbacks versus the Colorado Rockies).
  • Annual awards luncheon.
For more information visit https://watereuse.org/news-events/conferences/annual-watereuse-symposium/

Please join us for a live demonstration, to view our technology in action, ask questions and see the results first-hand. This live demonstration will be held in Edmonton Canada and Southern California.
